Where we can assist
Wisbech is a market town, inland port and civil parish in the Fens of Cambridgeshire, England. With a population of 31573, the town is the second largest town in Cambridgeshire. Although originally a municipal borough, Wisbech became a civil parish in the Fenland District after the Local Government Act of 1972 came into effect in 1974. Wisbech is recognised for its well-preserved Georgian architecture, especially in the town’s North Brink and The Crescent. As such, it is frequently used as a film location. For instance, BBC One’s 1999 television adaptation of Charles Dickens’ ‘David Copperfield’.
A popular attraction is the Wisbech and Fenland Museum, which contains substantial collections of local records and various other items. Artefacts of particular interest include Napoleon’s Sevres breakfast service, Thomas Clarkson’s chest, and the original manuscript of ‘Great Expectations’ by Charles Dickens. Another site that attracts much interest is Elgood’s Brewery, which was founded in 1795 and bought relatively shortly after its opening by the Elgood family. Being a fairly traditional brewery, it produces less than more modern micro-breweries, with output totalling around 90-100 barrels per week. Some of the most popular beers produced, which are sold throughout the country, are ‘Black Dog Mild’, ‘Brookes Ale’, ‘Reinbeer’ and ‘Jingle Ale’. The brewery recently won the Champion Beer of Britain award. Visitors are also attracted to the brewery to walk around its extensive and plentiful gardens.
Wisbech is also home to Wisbech Town Football Club and Wisbech Rugby Union Football Club, as well as a swimming, hockey, running and squash club. The Wisbech Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, an amateur dramatic group, have regularly performed musicals since 1905 and pantomime since 1975.
Don’t miss out on our high quality air conditioning and maintenance solutions – we work in locations throughout England, Wales and Scotland, in addition to Wisbech.
