If your business has a server room, it’s vital that you keep it cool 24/7. Server room air conditioning is key to keeping your servers at a low temperature.
But once you’ve installed air conditioning in your server room, you can’t stop there. There are a few steps you can take to ensure that you keep your servers safe from overheating, and we’ll also give you some of our recommendations for the best air conditioning units for server rooms.
Two Top tips for keeping your server room air conditioning running efficiently
1. Design the server room with ‘hot aisles’ in mind
When you’re thinking about where you’re going to put your server racks, make sure you ensure that they are moving the hot air in a different direction to the cold air intake.
Position the racks in front of each other – this will create a ‘hot aisle’. Then, the cool air can be distributed through the ‘cold aisles.’
2. Add blanking panels
If you’ve got empty spaces in your server racks, you should install blanking panels into the gaps. Often called filter panels, these panels control the airflow inside of the server racks.
If you don’t install blanking panels, the hot air from the back of the servers will recirculate through the empty spaces in the server rack and move into the air intakes on the front of the servers. That means your air conditioning will be less efficient and won’t be able to cool the room as effectively.
